District Crossroads

A Neighborly Podcast

As part of the North Capital Crossroads planning study led by SOM for the DC Office of Planning, Interface Multimedia teamed up with Prologue DC and Velo Media to produce two 30 minute podcasts highlighting the history and community experience in this otherwise very institutional area of Washington,

Interface contributed to multiple aspects of the planning and design process for the North Capital Crossroads Vision Study.

Podcast Production

During the research phase of the project Prologue DC identified, interviewed, and recorded oral histories from neighbors who lived and/or worked in this unique part of the District. Interface and Velo Media contributed questions to the interview process and helped weave the interviews into a two part podcast. IFM was also responsible for all editing and post production. Both episodes were hosted by Bridget Todd of City Cast DC. Episode 1: ‘Acts of Community’ features the people - with their art, their time, their ideas - creating connections; changing their city and their world for the better; one small act at a time. Episode 2: Making History focuses on understanding how we got here… and along the way what the area has to do with Abraham Lincoln, the interstate highway system, and the return of a lost city park.

To listen to the podcast check out the project website or search for District Crossroads on Spotify or Apple Podcasts. Episode 1 and Episode 2 can also be accessed here.

Planning Concept Illustrations

Phase 2 of the project for Interface, to be released during the Summer of 2024, included illustrating and animating unique opportunities for new placemaking, housing and parks within the boundaries of the North Capital Crossroads. Illustrations included the impact of removing a full highway scaled cloverleaf from the intersection of Irving and North Capitol as well as the unique opportunity near Irving and Michigan Avenue to develop a residential and hotel project at the doorstep of both Trinity College and Catholic University.
