Reston Town Center Website

A digital front door for Northern Virginia's town center

Reston Town Center's website is where visitors decide where to eat, what's on tonight, and how to find their way around. Interface rebuilt it from scratch, replacing an aging WordPress site with a Webflow platform built around a live interactive map.

Website rebuild for Reston Town Center, a mixed-use retail, dining, and entertainment destination in Reston, Virginia, managed by BXP. Interface replaced an aging WordPress site with a Webflow platform built around a real interactive map, a full events calendar, and a shop and restaurant directory.

Reston Town Center draws people in for a lot of reasons: a lunch reservation, a summer concert, the holiday parade, a walk between shops on a Saturday. Whatever brought them, the property's website is usually the first stop. It's where a visitor decides where to eat, what's on tonight, and how to get from the parking garage to the right storefront. BXP asked Interface to rebuild that first stop from the ground up, on a platform the property could run itself.

The old site ran on WordPress. By the time Interface began the rebuild, it had gone offline entirely, so there was no live page to reference. Interface pieced the design back together from the site's own source files and a full export of its old content, then rebuilt it on Webflow: 95 shops and restaurants and a 56-event calendar, moved from static WordPress posts into a real content system. The directory has grown since. As of September 2026, it runs to just over 100 shop and restaurant pages.

The interactive map got the biggest change. The old version was a static floor plan image a visitor could pan and zoom, with fixed icons pinned to fixed spots. Interface rebuilt it on Mapbox instead, running real map data under a floor plan generated from Reston Town Center's own architectural drawings, corrected for the property's actual latitude so nothing distorts. Pins are color-coded by category, shop, dine, entertainment, services, and pull live from the same directory a visitor browses on the store pages, so a new tenant shows up on the map the day it's added to the site.

Underneath all of it, Interface built a privacy layer that blocks Google's tracking scripts until a visitor actually agrees to them, plus a separate, first-party visit count that works whether they agree or not, so BXP can see real traffic instead of only what a cookie banner allows through. Interface also compressed the site's highest-traffic images, cutting the combined file size of the top offenders by about 70 percent without changing how they look on the page. The site now publishes a structured, AI-readable description of the property too, so AI assistants and search tools have something accurate to draw from instead of guessing from scraped pages. The rebuilt site was live by the end of August 2026.

The interactive map runs on Mapbox over real coordinates, not a static image. Its floor plan comes from Reston Town Center's own architectural drawings, adjusted for the property's actual latitude to keep it proportional. Pins are color-coded by category, shop, dine, entertainment, services, and pull live from the same Shops directory a visitor browses on individual store pages, so a new tenant appears on the map the moment it's added to the site. It replaces the old site's static, pannable floor plan with fixed icons.
