About Interface

At the intersection of technology, design,
& the built environment.

For over three decades, Interface Multimedia has helped organizations transform complex ideas into compelling brands, high-performance digital platforms, and measurable business outcomes powered by data and AI.

Our Differentiation

Built for organizations that shape
the built environment.

The organizations we serve operate in complex, long-term markets where strategy, communication, and technology must work together across multiple stakeholders, projects, and phases.

We simplify that complexity by

Aligning strategy, brand, and positioning from the start

Building digital platforms designed to evolve over years, not campaigns

Creating visualization and media that communicate at every stage

Using data and AI to continuously improve performance and decision-making

The result is more than effective marketing—it's a connected digital ecosystem that creates lasting business value.

Three Decades

Experience in the
built environment.

1993

Founded by Architects

Mark Burlinson and Jeff Pulford, graduates of the University of Maryland School of Architecture, establish Interface Multimedia.

1996

Kennedy Center Concert Hall

First 3D model created from original 1965 drawings — pioneering architectural visualization.

1997

Air & Space Museum

Rendering helps secure $60M donation for the Udvar-Hazy Center — proving the power of visualization in development.

1999

Urban Planning Tools

Visualizing landmark urban projects — the Anacostia Waterfront Initiative, the DC Citizens Summit, and Nationals Stadium — to communicate vision to planners, city officials, and the public.

100 Projects
2000

Peabody Institute

The award-winning Peabody Institute donor film launched Interface's video production studio — establishing a comprehensive practice from storyboarding and research to on-site video crews and animated visualization techniques.

2001

Mixed-Use Retail Pioneers

Visualization and placemaking work for a wave of landmark mixed-use retail destinations — Santana Row, Mizner Park, Pentagon Row, Bethesda Row, and Pike & Rose.

2001

Digital Asset Management

Built "Relevant Experience" for IDEO — the blueprint for Interface's pioneering digital asset management system, with a security model that protected intellectual property while making knowledge more accessible across the corporation.

2002

National Treasures

Interface secures work on some of the most valuable buildings in the country — the National Archives (home to the Bill of Rights, Constitution, and Declaration of Independence), the Library of Congress, the Government Accountability Office, and U.S. embassies abroad — delivering secure visualization, accessibility, and digital work for institutions where trust and discretion are everything.

2003

National Harbor

Interface's first large-scale urban branding and communication project — working directly with Milt Peterson and the Peterson Companies to realize National Harbor as the jewel of Prince George's County, and forging much of our branding and marketing expertise along the way.

2003

$11B Military Housing

Interface partners with Forest City Washington to help win military housing projects from Air Force, Army, Navy, and Marine Corps housing programs — 15,000 homes across 8 states.

500 Projects
2007

US Holocaust Memorial Museum

Interface wins RFP to build the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum's enterprise digital asset management system.

1,000 Projects
2008

Martin Luther King Memorial

3D-scanned a miniature sculpture of the monument into our modeling environment and built a communication video explaining the project — visualizing the importance of the memorial at public hearings and presentations.

2010

4D Construction Pioneers

For years our 4D construction animation helped Clark Construction's planning and pre-development arm win large federal projects — pioneering the technique before coordination tools existed, a practice the GSA soon mandated.

2011

The Wharf, DC

Master-plan visualization and brand storytelling for The Wharf — helping reimagine DC's mile-long Southwest waterfront.

2013

WMATA Metro Canopies

Canopy designs for 10 Metro stations across DC — extending earlier station work (2004–05) modeled down to the third-rail screws, one of which famously crashed the model with 100,000 polygons in a single screw head.

2016

Capital One Center

Partnered with Capital One Workplace Solutions to launch the brand identity for Capital One Center, their Tysons headquarters — branding, naming, 3D virtual tours, signage, streetscape, retail concepts, film, and web — and, for the first time, wove every Interface service into one compelling story for a world-class walkable urban environment.

2018

Colonial Williamsburg E-Commerce

Custom e-commerce platform for The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, integrating digital asset management with web-to-print fulfillment.

Reimagining What's Next

For thirty years we've used each new digital tool to explain the complex, tell a better story, streamline the work, and open up access to information. Now, with AI, we're reimagining what the next generation of that work can be.

Government Work

Three decades
on federal ground.

Since 1996, Interface Multimedia has helped win, fund, and explain public projects—museums and memorials, embassies and courthouses, military communities and Metro stations. Some commissions came to us directly. Most arrived through the builders and architects entrusted with them, when a rendering, a film, or a hearing-room presentation had to carry the argument.

How We Work

Direct to agencies, and beside the teams they trust. We serve institutions directly and as the visualization and media partner to the firms delivering their projects—Clark Construction, HOK, Quinn Evans, Forest City—wherever the work has to be understood before it can be approved.

Leadership

Founded by
architects.
Built to integrate.

Our team includes strategists, designers, developers, 3D artists, filmmakers, and content specialists working together as a single integrated group.

We operate less like a vendor and more like an extension of your internal team — aligned to your goals, timelines, and constraints.

What Comes Next

Designed to evolve.

Marketing is moving from a fixed deliverable into a responsive system — one that continuously adapts to performance, behavior, and context rather than remaining static at launch. We design and operate the systems that make that shift possible, so your brand, platform, and content continue to perform over time.
